“Today, second only to water, concrete is the most consumed material, with three tonnes per year used for every person in the world”1 and the correct use of this material invented by the Romans has been allowed to the humanity go ahead to a modern and advanced world, however regardless as a widely used material through the years the mode how its elaboration is controlled, few or nothing has changed until now.
Today, second only to water, concrete is the most consumed material
The concrete cylinder testing is the most common test as to the concrete quality control, which ones are based into a physical test that finally, after obtaining the compression strength data, makes a lot of rubble (waste). In the middle of the last century the concrete maturity method was born thanks to the cement-water chemical reaction studies. This chemical reaction generates heat (exothermic reaction) and the temperatures historic reached by the concrete are directly correlated with the material strength (concrete maturity test).
The concrete maturity test has been coming up its acceptance in accordance with the good results that can be observed between the maturity and strength correlation instead the concrete cylinder test, especially into the concrete earliest ages (48 hours). In this way, the technology has been advancing until today where we can track the real time concrete strength without the need to make rubble and wait for the uncertainty cylinder testing results.
